タイトルに使われている“less than one”は、「１人未満」という意味。この作品集は人口が「１平方キロメートルあたり１人未満」という、ロシアの辺境の地を撮影した作品が集められている。

アレキサンダー・グロンスキーは、自然の境界線のランドスケープを捉える。それもたいていは、自然の側から、一歩（百歩？）引いて「人の存在」を俯瞰する。

人によっては、それはただ荒廃した寂しい写真にしか見えないかもしれない。または、人の力による自然破壊を捉えた写真に見える人もいるかもしれない。僕はなぜか、そのすべてに人の温もりを感じる。


This photo book is a collection of Alexander Glonsky's "Less Than One" series, which capture the remote areas in Russia where the population density is less than one per square kilometer.

Glonsky is very good at capturing the border of man and nature. Some people see desolation, while others distruction of nature by mankind. To me, I feel the warmth of people.

今まで女子のパーツというか、顔を見せずに妄想を掻き立てる写真をたくさん撮ってきた青山氏による、「顔出し写真」ばかりの写真集。写っているのは、すべて「妹」だ。

ただし、被写体が「妹」であっても妄想系であることに変わりはない。実際には血のつながりもない他人の女の子なのだから。

写真集はその架空の「妹」を春夏秋冬、１年（！）かけて高校卒業までを追う。写真家になりたいという「妹」にアドバイスを送りながら。ところどころに、「妹」が撮った写真が挿入されている演出もにくい。ちなみに、「アドバイス」はポートレートを撮りたいという写真初心者にちょうどいいレベル。

ところで、なんで世の人は「妹」というキーワードに妄想を抱くのだろう。不思議だ。しばらく「妹」という言葉をすっかり忘れていたけれど、思い起こせば（というのも変だけれども）僕にも９歳離れた妹がいた…ではなくて、いる。生まれてからずっと見てきたけれど、世の考える「妹」とは何か違うのだ。

Mr. Aoyama has only captured parts of girls, which let male viewers imagination run. But for this book, he has taken photos which shows a girl's face. And she an imaginary"sister" of the author.

Through the photos, the photographer follows her sister throughout the year until her graduation day of high school. Her dream is to become a photographer, following her brother's career.

Some pieces of the author's advice for would-be photographer are inserted between photos , and they might be useful to beginner photographers.

By the way, why do people like to let imagination run wild on younger "sisters"? (Or is it just the case with Japanese male??) I have a sister nine years younger than me, but she is far away from the images of sisters described in this book or in Japanese anime or manga ... So I have never dreamed of having such fancy sisters in my life.

鈴木理策さんは僕が好きな写真家の一人。鈴木さんの写真の特徴のひとつは、この写真集に添えられた解説文の言葉を借りるなら、被写体に「ふと目をやった瞬間、写真的な予定調和の構図を作ろうとする前に、シャッターをきる」ことにある。

手前に余計なものが写っていたり、見たものにフォーカスを当てるので被写界深度はとても浅かったりする。そして、雪の中を歩くときは見下ろしてばかりだし、桜の写真は見上げてばかりだ。でも、彼の視点を体験でき、その場にいるような感覚にとらわれる。

基本的に僕は、目的地に到達して撮った「決めのショット」よりも、そこに到達するまでの道中で撮った、写真家の内面を写したような写真をより好むのかもしれない。

Risaku Suzuki is one of my favorite Japanese photographers.

One of the characteristics of his works is that they capture the moment before the photographer composes a pre-established composition when something catches his eyes.

So he often leaves objects in the composition which most photographers would like to keep out of the frame. Focus depth is very shallow because the focused object is exactly what has caught his eyes. When he walks in the snow, the focus is on the snow on the ground. When he walks under cherry trees, he always looks up at the cherry blossoms. There is not a single shot that would make it to postcards that you often see at a souvenir shop.

What you see is what he saw, which is exactly what I like about his photography.

AKB48のことは知らない。本当に知らない。でも、この写真集が発売当初に売れたことは知っている。そして、写真家Leslie Keeがアートやファッション、芸能人ポートレートで活躍している人であることは知っている。

アイドルのポートレートだったら、ファンはきっとかわいい笑顔に寄った写真（この娘の場合はお尻？）に喜ぶのだろう。だから、それをファッションフォトの一人者がどう料理するのかに興味があって手に取った。

結果、メイクもバッチリ決まったおしゃれな写真とカジュアルさが融合された、かっこいい内容となっている（この写真集を買った女性も多いと聞く）。ポーズもアイドルっぽくない、Beyonceや倖田來未的なものが多い（もちろん、お尻を強調したかわいいショットもある）。

個人的には（ちょっと昔の話だけれども）、菅野美穂の「Nudity」のように、リアルさを感じられる写真の方が好み。それはともかく、編集者的視点で語るなら、オールカラーでそれなりにボリュームのある写真集を、1,667円（税別）で発売できることがうらやましい（ある程度まとまった部数を見込まなければありえない）。

I don't know about AKB48 well. I really don't know. Still, I know that this photo book has sold really well, and that the photographer is well-known in fashion photos and celebrity portrait photos.

If you are Sayaka Yamamoto's fan, you want to see closeup shot of her smiling at you in a bikini. Or you'll be excited about her bottom shot. So, I wanted to see how this photographer would satisfy the needs of her fans.

In the book, she puts on a full makeup, posing casually in some photos, and posing like Beyonce or Kumi Koda in others. It contains more cool or fashionable photos. My guess is that her fan would like to see more 'intimate' photos.

I prefer a photo book such as Miho Kanno's Nudity, which contains photos feels more real. My personal taste aside, as an editor, I'm envious with the fact that that the photo book of a certain volume can have  a price tag as low as 1,667 yen. It's impossible unless they had expected it would sell really well.
